I am staying in Venice for a week in October and I'm considering buying a 7 day Venicecard online prior to the trip. I see there are two types - Orange and Blue. Does someone have experience with the card? Do you recommend buying it?
Thanks,
Mike
I don't know about the 7 day VENICEcard vs. the vaporetto pass, but we opted or a 3 day vaporetto pass over the VENICEcard . It seemed that the only real difference between the less expensive VENICEcard (don't remember if that's Orange or Blue) was access to public toilets, and some vague discounts. But, it was more expensive, and we decided against it. We didn't regret our decision. But, we didn't go to the museums included on the card. You really need to do your homework to determine how much of the benefit you'll take advantage of.
The other reason we were tempted to purchase the VENICEcard was that you can do that on-line, in advance, and we were a bit compulsive about advance purchases, if they were possible. But, even if you purchase it in advance, you still have to pick it up at the Hellovenezia office which is where ... you guessed it ... you buy your vaporetto pass. So, even the advance purchase wasn't really that much more convenient. And, it was more expensive.
That said, I don't think that there is a 7 day vaporetto pass, so you could compare getting 2 72 hour passes, plus a day pass. But, that could be a pain.
Another thing to consider is that, if you're no older than 29, you can get a Rolling VENICEcard for 4 Euros, and, with that, you get a significant discount on the vaporetto pass (for my son, it was 18 Euros, rather than 31, so even with the 4 Euro Rolling VENICEcard, it came to 22 Euros).
I hope that that was helpful; I'm not sure that it was!
