Venice with 2 small kids...any hotel suggestions

We are staying in Venice for one before we embark on our cruise. Does anyone have a great place to stay that allows us to have the kids in the same room. Unfortunately we are flying into Venice and have all of our luggage and kids and need to find a place to stay that will be easy to get to with a water taxi. The thought of walking with all the luggage and car seats through narrow streets to find out hotel is keeping me awake at night. Any ideas??

You'll want to stay near the train station. There are a number of hotels nearby and the area is a short walk from the Piazalle Roma where buses from the airport arrive. The cruise port is also easy to reach from that neighborhood.

But the best reason is that one of the few playgrounds in Venice is tucked away just a few blocks from the train station.

Hello,

We've stayed at the Hotel Galleria many times, by the Accademia bridge, just steps from the Accademia vaporetto stop. It's a very nice hotel in a good location. They have one large room (that they say sleeps 5, but consider it one large-ish hotel room where they could set up cots for the kids), and it's very reasonable in price and comes with breakfast. The website is www.hotelgalleria.it. But you may find something even more appropriate for a family at www.holiday-velvet.com, www.venice-apartments.com or the official tourism website, http://www.turismovenezia.it/eng/dynalay.asp?PAGINA=407. We're also in the same boat, trying to find an apartment for 2 nights only in March for a family of 5 adults and 2 infants, so if you run across anything that doesn't have a 3-day minimum let us know :)

When we went with three kids we called Hotel d'Art (I think one of Rick's recommendations) the morning before our arrival. They had a small two bedroom apartment for us that was owned by, but not part of, the hotel. It didn't have a view but was perfectly functional for us with a living room, kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom for a very affordable price. If I went back tomorrow I would gladly stay in the same place.

Ca Dogaressa is on the Cannareggio Canal, close to the train station. The Jr. Suite (they have 2) is a huge room, king bed and a double sofa sleeper in a sitting area. very large bathroom. The Jr. Suite (both of them) look out onto the canal, and they are spotless. Paolo, the owner, took our camera outside to take a picture of my husband and I looking out the window., It is very close to a vaporetto stop.

On our last visit to Venice in August 2007 we spent 4 nights at one of Hotel Campiello's apartments. I believe that there are 3 apts. and they were new last April. They are located just a few steps from Hotel Campiello. We had a one bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room worked fine for our 2 sons.

Hotel Campiello is very convenient and easy to find and is just a few steps off the waterfront street--Riva degli Schiavoni(just a few minutes from St. Mark's Square. The apt. was very nice and modern with air cond. and a great bathroom with a deep tub, separate shower and 2 sinks. There is also a nice kitchenette/dining room with microwave and everything you may need. Our apt. was right at ground level so no luggage to lug up stairs.

We had dropped off our rental car at the Venice airport and took a water taxi into Venice. It let us off right near St. Mark's Square. Are you familiar with Venice? Let me know if I can answer any other questions you may have.

If you go to Hotel Campiello's website, the apts. are under "Suites." The apt. we had was the "Bucintoro" but I am sure that they are all nice.
