We will be spending the day and night in Venice in a few weeks but have an early Sunday morning (6:45AM) flight out of Marco Polo International Airport. We would like to enjoy Venice in the evening (hoping there will be fewer tourists at that time). Is the bus transportation system reliable enough to stay near the Piazzale Roma and take the 5:00 bus to the airport? Should we plan to stay closer to the airport? Thank you!
From Piazzale Roma you can take the bus or also a regular taxi (on wheels).. there are a few hotels walking distance from Piazzale Roma, like the Olimpia, the Arlecchino, and of course the Papadopoli (more expensive).
Another alternative is to stay in Mestre near the train station (5 min by train). In front of the Venezia Mestre station I recommend the hotel Tritone or the BW Bologna. From either Mestre or Piazzale Roma its a short taxi ride to the airport.
Or near the airport, we used Hotel Titian and took their shuttle for a 7 a.m. flight.
I have twice taken the first (04:20, ATVO) bus from Piazzale Roma and it has left exactly on time and got me to the airport in about 20 minutes. I would not hesitate to use it again.
