We are taking an Ocenania cruise from Venice to Barcelona in the fall and are adding three days on each end to visit. We are first time cruisers and are 75 & 80. Would like to hear some suggestions about hotels in Venice and Barcelona. Thanks in advance.
You do know that there are no more cruise ships allowed in the lagoon, so a cruise that says Venice, actually departs from Ravenna, about 80 miles away.
The trains from Venice to Ravenna take 3 hours, more or less.
We always stay in the Cannaregio area of Venice. It's very quiet and on the back canals, yet you are only a 15 minute walk or vaporetta ride to St. Marks Square. You can research hotels on booking.com, and then book directly.
Have a great trip!
Cruises to “Venice “ may also dock in Chioggia, not actually in Venice itself.
I looked on the Oceania site, but it’s not clear which port they use for Venice.
Another vote for the Canareggio area of Venice to stay in.
In Venice, one of my considerations is how many bridges do I have to cross with my luggage. I’m guessing that you might not be packing light for a cruise. Hotel Ala is well situated, just a short distance from a vaporetto stop, with no bridges to cross. It’s very close to St. Mark’s square. https://www.hotelala.it/en/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=knowledge-graph
The area around the main train station is more affordable.
I also heard that Venice was no loner allowing ships into the lagoon. So I called Oceania and their rep said that the Nautica was still scheduled to board their passengers at Stagionale, terminals 109 & 110 for our cruise in late October. Now, that may be a selling point to courage passengers to register or not cancel this cruise, I'm just saying.
