Venice - where to see New Year's Eve fireworks?

Hi. We are going to Venice over New Year (yay!). I have read completely contradictory things about seeing the fireworks on New Year's Eve - either that you should see them from St Mark's Square, or that you definitely cannot see them from St Mark's Square but instead should head to Arsenale. Which one is correct please? Thank you

You can’t see the fireworks inside of St Marks Square, but rather along the canal outside of it.
I’d rather head down to the Arsenal area between # 6 & #9 on this map.

There are also many concerts around Venice at this time.
