Venice water taxi price from train to hotel

What should be the cost for four adults with four suitcases to go from the train station to the vicinity of Campo Santa Maria Formosa? Gratzi.

No, it's not 15 euros per person. It's about 60 euros for up to four people and a reasonable amount of their luggage to go from the train station to most hotels in the main part of Venice on a private water taxi or in Venezia a motoscafi. The water taxi can actually take about 8 people but there is usually a slight up charge for over 4. These are the sleek usually mahogany hulled speedboats that travel the canals even the smaller back water ones.

The public vaporetto costs 6.50 euro per person and a piece of luggage each and runs on a set route which does not get anywhere close to Campo Santa Maria Formosa. these are the big slow water busses.

Just like here the motoscafi are the taxis or limo service and the vaporetto is the bus.

We went in the opposite direction - from Campo Santa Maria Formosa to the train station. We walked from the Campo to the Rialto vaporetto stop, not a long walk, and only one or two small bridges (the vaporetto stop is on the San Marco side of the Rialto). We (me, husband and 10yo daughter) each had a piece of rolling luggage and a backpack and made the journey easily.

Frankly, most things in Venice are not a very long walk from a vaporetto stop. Very do-able.

It is, in fact, what we do every time we go to Venice.

Although expensive as $%^4, the water taxi trip is fantastic and worth the price of admission.

Nothing like seeing Venice from the water and I think it's a great introduction to the city

We stayed at Casa Santa Maria Formosa last Sept. the weekend of the Regatta, and it was 75 EU for the water taxi. We felt that while that was a lot, it was worth it for the ride right to our hotel door, and the taxi driver took us on scenic back canals we wouldn't otherwise have seen.

Correction--that was the price from the Airport--not the trains station!
