I have a great memory of riding into Venice on a water taxi as a teenager and feeling like I was in a movie.. im taking my two teenage boys to Venice in March. I know it’s not exactly cheep but I’m wondering if I take my Air BNB host up on booking/ arranging it for me.. 130 euros or if it’s just easier and slightly cheaper to get one after exiting the airport. Is it as easy as walking out of the airport and down to the docks? (Like an airport taxi line?)

The water taxi dock is actually rather a long walk from the airport, but they recently built a land bridge from the upper level of the airport with a moving walkway to the dock, so it is easier now, 130 EUR sounds about right. You can book on-line in advance, from a desk at the arrivals level, or at the dock. Price for an exclusive water taxi is pretty well fixed, so letting your host book it for you is OK too. If you do want to save some coin, you can book a shared taxi, knowing that you may have to wait for other passengers and make a few stops in Venice before you arrive at your destination.
Here is the official site , you can book yourself
130 euros sounds about right but check yourself

Unfortunately the taxi service mentioned above isn't taking advance reservations the days we will be in Venice because of a special art event in town. However, they recommended making reservations in advance because the water taxis will be hard to get that week. Looking online it's hard to tell which water taxi services are reliable and which are scams.
Which water taxi companies have others used with success?

I took a shared water taxi, so less expensive than a private one. It was in 2016 and there was a ticket office in the terminal.
Exactly what Andrea said…we’ve used the shared water taxis three times and will be again in May. We’ve never waited more than 15 minutes for them to gather six or eight people to fill a taxi….quick walk down to the new taxi docks, and you’re off!
hey hey brezelrose
we have used the water taxi that we reserved that Christina H posted, 5 times. yes it is more but a fabulous way to get into venice from the airport, there were 4 of us that we split the cost. make sure you have name and address of hotel/airbnb you are staying at with directions from airbnb to get there.
