Venice Walking Tours

What is the best tour to take that will be available in mid Nov? We have toured the Basicilia and would like to see more sites away from St Marks Square.

You could go old school and buy "The Stones of Venice" by John Ruskin.

We got a book at the library called Venice Made Easy. It had a section devoted to guided walks in each of the areas of Venice. This worked very well for us. Also Rick Steves has downloadable mp3 narration of some areas of Venice. We put St Marks on our phone and mp3 player and had a very good understanding of St Marks. In case you go to Siena, I found very nice guided walks at WWW.COMUNE.SIENA.IT/TURISMO Have fun!

Frommer's has a great book for self guided walks"24 Great Walks in Venice." They have one for Rome, too. Really opens up less-traversed parts of the city.

I found great audio guides at pocketvox.com. They have a few that take you to different parts of the city. I really liked the ones for the Dorsoduro area. They take you past the gondola shop, among other things. My husband and I did these tours and really enjoyed them. The best part for us was that we went at our own pace and stopped for lunch when we want to. We are not really "organized tour" people so this worked out very well for us. Donna

We've enjoyed the self-guided walks found in the Eyewitness Travel Guide to Venice. I made color photocopies of selected pages to take along, since they're books are so incredibly heavy. Or were you asking only about guided tours? Can't help you there, I'm afraid. Happy travels.
