Venice - Vaporetto to Marco Polo Airport

We will arrive in Venice via train Friday May 11 in the afternoon. We leave from Marco Polo on Monday May 14 at 10:30. Staying near San Marco. If my math is right, that is less than 72 hours. So we are planning on buying the 72 hour vaporetto pass. Based on what I see on the ACTV website, we need to buy an additional 6 EUR ticket to get to the airport. But the more I read, the more confused I get. Would appreciate any help figuring out the 72 hours pass and trip to the airport.

Are Alilaguna, Vaporetto, Water Bus, ACTV all the same thing?

The 72-hour Pass isn't for the vaporetto only. They do not go to the airport, so you need to pay the extra 6€ for the bus ( on land) from Piazzale Roma to the airport.

Alilaguna is a separate boat service that does serve the airport, form limited stops around Venice. The 72- hour pass does not cover the Alilaguna; you need to buy a separate ticket. I don't know the exact current price but it is around €15 or more.

The advantage of the Alilaguna is that you don't have to transfer. The disadvantage is that it costs more and is a long and sometimes boring or uncomfortable ride across the lagoon.

Alilaguna is a separate company that operates public boats to the airport.
Vaporetto and Water Bus are pretty much synonymous.
ACTV is the Venice transit authority that runs the vaporettos (but not the Alilaguna) and the land buses in the city, which includes Mestre and Lido.

If you buy a 72 hour pass and the 6 EUR airport one-way adder, that is good for the No 5 bus that runs from Piazzale Roma to the airport. So from San Marco, you would need to take a vaporetto to Piazzale Roma and change to the bus. They go about every 15 minutes.

The 72 hour pass starts from the first time you scan it on your first usage and continues for 72 hours from that time. Scan your pass every time before getting on the dock or on the bus.

Advantage of the bus is, if you are getting a 72 hour pass, it is only 6 extra EUR to get to the airport if you include it with the pass. It is 8 EUR to buy a separate ticket, and the Alilaguna you pay the whole 15 EUR. Also, the bus drops you right at the airport door. The Alilaguna leaves you at the dock 600 yards for the airport door, although there is now a moving walkway for part of it.

The Alilaguna boat is indeed tedious and uncomfortable. Take the bus; you'll be glad you did.

Wow. It actually makes sense now. P.Le Roma is the bus area! I did not see that anywhere on ACTV site (it's probably there, but I didn't see it)... That's what we will do, 72 hour pass with the bus add on. You are all great!!!!
