Venice Vaporetto Lines

We are looking forward to traveling up the Grand Canal from Piazzale Roma. I know the Linea 1 makes all the stops . What is the line number which makes less stops? That being said, where are good places to get out along the way to spend an hour or so and then reboard on the way to San Marco? Thank you.

Unless they have changed, Line #2. You can do a google search and have access to many maps showing the various routes and stops.

For a good stop, if the market is open, try Rialto Mercato. You can browse the market and check out the Rialto Bridge as well.

Rialto Mercato is a good call, but 2 doesn't stop there. You'd have to take 1, get off there, check out the fish market, walk over to Rialto, and catch the 1 at Rialto.

An interesting stop actually on the 2 is to get off at Accademia, see Peggy Guggenheim's place, the Accademia gallery, or Salute Church, and cross the Accademia Bridge over to near San Marco.

Gullies stop which is near the Jewish Ghetto. There's a nice museum for history, beautiful churches and it's a calm and peaceful walk away from crowds.

Just make sure you watch the time if you get off and then catch a later vaporetto. A ticket is good for 75 minutes from the time of validation, for travel in one direction.

If you are using a pass instead of tickets, make sure you have enough time left on it to complete the journey.

Thanks for the replies. Interesting that the time on the ticket has to coincide with getting off at final destination as opposed to boarding by the time it expires. Do they expel you when the ticket runs out or do they just not let you on if you don't have time to your stop? Do you have to declare where you are getting out when you board?

They do not ask where you are going when you board or even ask to see the ticket. You just get on with the crowd.

They may or may not check tickets once you are underway. That is when they might ask where you are headed. And if there is not enough time left on your ticket or pass, they will probably just have you disembark at the next stop. But I have never read of a specific instance of that happening.

The most important thing is to validate that ticket with the machine you pass before you board. The fines for having an invalidated ticket are steep.
