Hi there.

I’m from Canada and we write our dates differently to US folks.
I’m not sure if this means you are arriving in Venice April 10th or October 4th?

If you mean only being in Venice one night, It might be best to stay the night before your cruise in Trieste, not to try and arrive there the day it leaves.
An early morning train would be best if not.
Trains take two to three hours, depending on the one you choose.
Trenitalia is the site for trains to Trieste.

Can you arrive and have longer in Venice, then get to Trieste the night before?
If not, a hotel very near the Venezia Santa Lucia Station would be your best option, as with only one night you will have only a few hours to “dip” into Venice.
That way you will easily get to the station from your hotel.
Others here can give you great hotel suggestions!

Thank you, our cruise departs Oct. 6. We have excursion on the 6th but would love to pop into Venice if weather is good & overnight stay worth it in special home location.

You said first that your cruise leaves the 5th.
Now you say it leaves the 6th?, and you have an excursion on the 6th?
Can you clarify “special home”?
“Popping in” to Venice from Trieste is a very long day….2-3 hours by train each way….to do …what?
Apologies, but I’m not understanding.

Ok, let’s see if this is correct…
You arrive by air into Venice on the 4th.
Stay Venice one night.
You then go all the way to Trieste on the 5th to stay on the ship the night of the 5th.
You then want to go back to Venice just for the day on the 6th?
Or is the excursion that day to somewhere else?

Got it.
So, just find a hotel near the Santa Lucia rail station in Venice for your arrival night one night stay.
You said you needed accessible, so be sure the one you book has a working elevator.
A lot of places in an old city like Venice do not.

Next day , get a train to Trieste and board your ship.
As the ship isn’t leaving that day, you could have a quick look around Venice in the morning and get a train to Trieste late afternoon.
