Venice Trevisio airport to St Mark's square on a Sunday evening.

Me and my girlfriend have planned and booked a 28 day long Euro-trip, which includes a flight from Budapest on the 19th July, which arrives in Venice at its Trevisio airport at just after 6pm. The 19th is a Sunday which makes the departing buses into Venice less frequent.

Can anyone tell me if its quicker to get a bus straight into venice or to the Trevisio train station and catch the train the rest of the way? My hotel is a ten minute from St.Mark's square so is fairly central.

Also, how much would a taxi in Italy cost to travel 40km? Pre-booked private transfers are extremely expensive (300 euros)

Thanks in advance

There are two buses running from Treviso airport to Venice, even on Sundays. Barzi Bus - www.barziservice.com is the fastest, taking 40 min. from Treviso airport to the Venice Tronchetto (€10, buy ticket from driver, buses every hour, see website for schedule). From Tronchetto, you can take the Vaportetto #2 to San Marco.
The ATVO buses run from Treviso Airport to Piazzale Roma, where you can catch the vaporetto #1 to San Marco. These buses run more frequently (every half-hour), but take longer (a little more than an hour, as they make more stops). Buy tickets at the ATVO desk in the airport (€10) and stamp them on the bus. www.atvo.it. See the section on Treviso airport in the "Connections" section of the Venice chapter in Rick's Italy guidebook for more details.
