Is there any advantage to purchasing a Venice transportation pass or the Rolling Venice card online vs. in Venice? Is it possible to take care of these purchases at the airport upon arrival? Is it cheaper to purchase in advance online?

I just bought our Venice Pass online last week - I couldn't necessarily discern any differences price wise between online vs. on-site, but I preferred to do it online so I could take my time and look through the options. Online they offered the general transit passes plus options for the Alilaguna to/from Marco Polo, public restroom add-ons, museum passes, church passes, etc.
I just felt like I could take my time and pick and choose what I wanted on a computer I was familiar with rather than risking standing at an airport kiosk with a line behind me hoping to figure things out quick enough. Either way - I think it's the same thing.

There is no real advantage to buying it online. There used to be a discount but no longer last I looked. Just buy it at the kiosk. You'll need a vaporetto pass to cover the hours/days you are there, but transportation to/from the airport is separate.
