Venice Transportation on a Sunday Morning to Marco Polo Airport

We (2 adults) are traveling from Venice to Marco Polo airport on Sunday, July 3. We are staying at the Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo. "A minute's walk from San Stae vaporetto stop." Our Easy Jet flight leaves at 8:30 a.m. Will we be able to get easy transportation to the airport? We've heard that there is less transportation on Sundays. Looking for recommendations. Also wondering how early we should be at the airport! Thanks!

It should be fairly easy....you need to take the AliLaguna to the airport...it stops at different docks than the regular water taxis, so doublecheck where the closest AliLaguna stop is, and pre-purchase tickets....there is also a printed, posted schedule, so you know when to be at the dock to get to the airport on time. The tickets are reasonable, if I remember correctly, about 5 euro, I think?

You don't "need" to take the Alilaguna boat, but it is an option. The other is to take the vaporetto to Piazzale Roma and then the No 5 bus to the airport door. It is a bit less money, especially if you have bought a vaporetto pass with a airport connection added on. It may also be quicker, but the bus will drop you at the airport door, while the Alilaguna boat will leave you 600 yards away.
There is no difference in the week day and Sunday schedules of the No 1 vaporetto and the No 5 bus.

To elaborate on the first answer above - the €5 is for the bus. The Alilaguna is considerably more expensive at €15 one way. Two hours for Easyjet.

Agree with Sam -- it was easy to take the vaporetto to the bus station and then #5 straight there. At the Piazzale Roma stop, we hung a left and found a beautiful little park to relax in for a while first, too.

I would be wary of using the Alilaguna to go TO the airport in the morning. If they are using one of the smaller boats, it can fill up at Rialto and they must leave people standing on the dock at San Stae or the stop after that. We saw this happen twice when we were there in October. Perhaps they were using the smaller boat due to aqua alta season, but I don't know how you would know this in advance.

The vaporetto/bus is a perfectly fine way to go; just check the schedules to make sure they are running early on Sunday mornings..
