If an international flight leaves at 6:10 am, what time do you think u need to go through security and check in? Janice

Wow. I don't think there are any scheduled departures between midnight and 6:25 am. I don't know if you can even get into the airport until 5 am.

The VCE website shows Air Transat departing at 6:00 for what appears to be a non-stop to Toronto, Canada. From what I understand, the Venice airport counters don't really open or get started until 5:00am. Note, however, that I am completely unfamiliar with Air Transat so there could be some unusual pre-arrival and boarding times. Note also that the first flight out of Marco Polo doesn't usually take place until about 6:20. One thing I would suggest is to call Air Transat and ask what time their check-in counter opens at Marco Polo. 2am is not necessary. Marco Polo is not a large airport. First, where are you staying? What is the name of your closest vaporetto stop. "Centre" is not descriptive enough for us to be really accurate. As for your options, there are three. The one with the easiest and best certainty is the private water taxi. Your hotel can arrange to have one at the hotel at any hour you choose. Cost will be 90E-110E for up to 8 people with luggage. Yes it is the most expensive way to get to the airport but it works the best. Water taxi people make big money on the early flights out of Marco Polo. Second, the first bus out of the Piazzale Roma is the ACTV bus at 4:40am. The big question is getting you to the Piazzale Roma in time for this bus. There is a night vaporetto that comes through the San Marco area about 3:40am that can get you there for the first bus. Again, I can be more accurate if I know your closest vaporetto stop. Third, spend your last night at a hotel very near the airport. The Courtyard by Marriott is just across the street from the entrance to the airport. The Titian Inn and Hotel is also close by the airport.

Janice please check your flight information carefully. There are no flights to Canada departing that early in the morning.
Air Canada to Toronto leaves after Noon, Air Transat to Toronto leaves at 4pm and Air Ztransat to Montreal leaves at 6pm. So it is possible that you are talking about the 6 PM flight, not AM. All flights to North America depart later in the morning or in the afternoon. If your flight indeed departs that early in the morning it is certainly headed to some European hub first. I don't see any flight currently before 6:20 am, however anything departing before 11:30am is a EU flight. If that is the case getting to the airport 75 min prior to departure is more than sufficient for a intra Europe flight. So at the earliest, you need to be at the airport at 5am. I don't even think the airport in Venice opens before 5am.

Janice, does your hotel have a water landing? If so, have you considered hiring a private water taxi? I can't imagine trying to find my way around in the dark with luggage in tow, etc. Although a water taxi is expensive, there's certainly something to be said about the convenience. Just a thought.

I think the best thing to do for convenience and comfort is to stay at a hotel at the airport the last evening in Venice. Then no worries. Thanks guys. JN
