Venice - Transfer from Hotel to Marco Polo Airport

My friend and I will be in Venice, Italy on May 13, 2020. Does anyone have suggestions on who to use to get from the Hotel to the Airport around 10am on Thursday May 14, 2020? I have tried calling the Hotel, but I get no answer and searching on the internet has not resulted in any useful information. Is it best to take a water taxi, a car or what? Would appreciate any help or suggestions.

Your hotel can call a water taxi for you. Ask them the night before you leave. Advantage is that they can tell you exactly where to find the taxi. The taxi “driver” will have your name so you don’t get on the wrong boat. It’s expensive but well worth your departing view of Venice and ease of getting to the airport.

What is the name of your hotel? There are a few in the Piazzale Roma area where you can get a land taxi.

The cheapest way is to get the bus from near the railway station. It’s quick and efficient and runs regularly. Water taxis are much more expensive.

The buses go from the Piazzale Roma, across the Grand Canal from the train station. They start running at 4:20 a.m., and take about 20 minutes.

Venice is an island with canals for boat travel...no cars. Trains, Buses, cars, taxis can only be found at the end of the very long causeway which connects the mainland to the island-no cars beyond that point (piazzale roma). From that point on you either walk, take a public water bus or take a private water taxi.

If you want to reach the island without crossing the causeway then it has to be on a boat. It’s the same when you depart the island. Either make your way to piazzale roma OR have a water taxi pick you up and take you to your destination.

It’s difficult for some people to understand, but when we say no cars on Venice island we really do mean it.

We took the express bus from the airport to Santa Lucia train station and then the Vaporetto to our hotel. https://www.veneziaairport.it/en/transport/venezia-santa-lucia-station.html If you want convenience and don't mind spending extra money than there is a water taxi station outside the airport with options for drop off points around Venice, to getting you as close to your hotel as possible-but it is slower and costlier. We didn't find the express bus that bad at all.
