If we are staying in Venice, but we want to take an 8am train from Venezia Mestre. How do we get to Venezia Mestre?? It looks like about 6 miles. i looked in the Venice book but did not find the answer.

Every train that departs Venezia Santa Lucia stops at Venezia Mestre. It's a 12 minute train ride. You will need to buy a ticket. Should be a couple of Euros. Usually, this journey will be on a Regionale train of which about 4 depart per hour. Here's a LINK to the current early morning schedule. There are earlier trains if you wish. Just buy your ticket, validate it at the little yellow box and get on.

Why do you want/need to take a train from Mestre? If you'll be in Venice proper, take the train from V. Santa Lucia.

You are right. I did not see any trains that early going from S. Lucia, but later on there are some. so this is the best way to go. Thank you everyone for your help. This is everything I wanted to know and more.
