Venice train station

I've been checking Italy's train schedules from Venice to Florence and Milan. Venice has two train stations: Mestre & Santa Lucia. When I look at the train departure times, it looks like the trains from Mestre get to Florence sooner and at better times for us. Is there a good way to get to the Mestre station - we are staying near St. Marks.

Michael,
Yes I knew that M station was outside of Venice but when you look up Venice on the train schedule it's shows both stations.

The train from Venice to Florence stops at Mestre'. There are non stop trains to Florence and Milan from either station. Your first option is take a 10 minute bus ride ( 1.10 euro ) from Venice to Mestre' train station or take the train from Venice to Mestre' ( 1 stop )

I'm fairly certain that all trains departing Venezia Santa Lucia (station on the island) will stop at Venezia Mestre. It's an 11-minute journey between stations. It's true that many high-speeds and especially the fastest (and most expensive) Cisalpino "tilting" train, depart from Mestre.

The easy way to do this is to jump on a cheap R train out of Santa Lucia for a few Euro and get off at Mestre.

One thing is unclear from your post. Are you aware that the only train station in Venice proper (meaning on the island) is Santa Lucia? Mestre is on the mainland and you have to get there somehow before you can take a train out of Mestre.
