Venice to Trieste-Train or Go Opti

There is a large group of us going from Venice to Trieste cruise port in mid September. Ages 52 to 81. A few people have balance and walking issues. They want to take the train but I'm worried it would be difficult for them. They seem to think they will see more of the countryside on the train.

In your experience, what are the benefits/drawbacks of train vs van transportation to Trieste for people with limited abilities?

Thank you.

We used Go Opti, and their service was very good. The advantage is door to door service and more flexible times. I don't remember the journey being exceptionally scenic, as they would use highways whenever possible, but my memory isn't always accurate. Good luck.

post from travelexplorar23, sent to WM for review. Interesting -- this post was deleted as I adding my comment below. I'll leave it up anyway.

When I took the train to Trieste from Venice to see Lipica, there were no ramps. Just the usual steps to board the train. The train was old and rickety.

Since you are going to the cruise port, I suspect you will have heavy luggage and everyone is expected to handle their luggage on the train. Although the younger of the group can help, they will have luggage of their own to deal with. The train tracks largely parallel the highway, so not sure if scenery is a big factor. So considering luggage handling should be your first priority.

Good point Sam. I didn't have luggage on my day trip, just a small backpack. There are no porters on trains to help with luggage. If TrenItalia has a seat map for the train, look to see where the WCs are and sit in that car. They are not in every car. Walking through a moving train can be difficult for someone with balance issues.
