Need to get to Trieste from Venice. Going on a cruise in October/November that leaves from Trieste. Thought about bus but doesn’t go there the day we need to go. Then thought about train but now I’m thinking a driver. Don’t want to spend too much but don’t want a lot of hassle either. Any insight into getting to Trieste from Venice would be helpful. Thank you ahead of time.
Hello Gina,
Usually I'm an advocate of train travel - the station is pretty close to the main cruise pier but it would probably mean train > taxi to get to the right place. The train also seems like the slowest option since it swings away from the coast.
There are companies like this one that cover the area pretty well with shared or exclusive shuttles and they should be able to drop you at the cruise pier eliminating some hassle.

Seems like one of the those time/convenience versus money questions that is up to you to decide.
Hope that helps,

Train will take you from Venice to Trieste. Very easy; I did it as a day trip. Takes 2 1/2 hours. Book on Trenitalia website or app. Then you can take a taxi to the cruise dock.
I'd take the train, too, but if you want a different option, GoOpti has been used--not necessarily between Venice and Trieste, but fairly often between Venice and Ljubljana, I think--by folks on the forum. All reports so far have been positive.
We used go opti Venice airport to Trieste. It was smooth.
There is another service I have heard of myday trip.com. People use it to get a driver one place to another with site seeing on the way if you want.
One more vote for the train. Quick, easy for a reasonable price. Once in Trieste, it's walking distance from the station to the cruise pier, or a short bus or taxi ride.
Will you be leaving from Venice proper or from the airport?
I’d say driver from airport if budget allows
Or
Train from Venice proper
( you’d have to get to P Roma to meet a driver)
All great advice. Thank you all. I’ll be looking into all of them.
