venice to the cinque terre by train

What is the best train travel route to take from Venice to the Cinque Terre? I have checked Trenitalia using Venezia as the departure point AND different towns in the Cinque Terre as the arrival point with no resulting routes. I also tried from Venezia to La Spezia and again had no luck. This is my first trip to Italy and something I've looked forward to for years. Help!!

What do you meant by "no resulting routes"?
You should be able to go to http://www.trenitalia.com/ specify Venezia S. Lucia to any of the five towns (for example Monterosso), a date and a time and it will find you a train. I looked up 22nd May and it found hourly trains with prices from €33 to €57.50.
Are you perhaps looking too far into the future?

Look at dates before June. The summer timetable is probably not yet available. Even if you intend to buy discounted tickets on high speed trains those become available 4 months in advance. September is too far out in the future. Changes in schedule will be minimal anyhow.

When trenitalia says, No Results, it means that the schedules at that time are not loaded into the system. It could also means no trains available IF you had requested a very narrow time departure window. I always put in a 12 hour window so I can see all the options. However, since you are looking for Sep, you are just too early. Look at next week if you want to see the schedule and typical prices.

Fritz,
Yes. The timetables change twice per year, in June and December (that is why I looked up a time in May). And the Italians are always late in posting the new times.
The change will be minimal (90-95% of the trains the same, many differences only a few minutes). Look up a date in May to get an idea of what services are available. and keep trying for September, the trains should appear on the website in a few weeks.

Finding information on trains in Italy can be very frustrating. I spent alot of time pouring over Italian timetables last year; then someone gave me a tip!

Try the German rail site for estimates of times (even between Italian destinations):
https://www.bahn.de/p_en/view/

As a check, I did a search into September for Venezia Santa Lucia to La Spezia; fares may not be available yet though.
Germans are really efficient and precise ; )
