would it be cheaper to fly to Venice rather than Slovenia. I want to go to lake bled via Venice, and take a train to Slovenia from Venice.

Yes, fly to Venice and then take the van(www.drd.si) to Ljubljana for €25 per person, which we did this last August. It leaves from Marco Polo airport and take about 3 hours and then arrange going to the lake from Ljubljana. Taking a train to Slovenia takes a lot longer and I believe is more expensive.

Fly from where? It might not be cheaper. Use a search engine like kayak to see for yourself. There are direct flights to Ljubljana from pretty much every major European airport, so if you can get to a major airport, it won't be hard.
