In mid September we will be travelling by train from Venice to Sestri-Levante. We can find travelling via Milan but was wondering if there may be a better option by train.
There is an option at 9:35 going to Firenze on a Frecciarossa 1000. That is the fastest trip I can see on www.Trenitalia.com. There are two changes of trains.
If you go to the Trenitalia (Italian Railways) site: http://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en
and look up Venezia S. Lucia to Sestri Levante, plus add date and time, this will find you the quickest route and the best price for each train combination.
There are some options via Milan, but more via Florence (Firenze) and La Spezia. It takes about 6 hours. You choice. Buy early for the cheapest prices.
You can also go via Florence, which is often a little faster but involves more changes. If it were me, I would go for the Freccia to Milano Centrale and Intercity to Sestri Levante. so only 1 change. There are still discounted tickets available for mid-September travel on that route.
