What is the best way to travel from Venice to Salerno in the shortest amount of time? Is there a non-stop train? How long does it take?
Sorry, no non-stop anything. Fastest way is 3 trains, Venice to Rome to Naples to Salerno. Something over 6 hours with good connections. Theoretically a little shorter if you fly Venice to Naples, then train to Salerno, but not if you count travel to and from airports, check in times, etc.
There is a way to do it on just one train. Not nonstop - the train stops 7 times, at Mestre, Padova, Bologna, Firenze, Roma Tiburtina, Roma Termini, and Napoli on its way - but you never have to leave your seat or change trains. It is run by .Italo and runs once a day, leaving Venezia Santa Lucia at 15.55 and arriving 5 hours and 59 minutes later at 21.54 in Salerno.
A bit late in the day but you'd have most of a day in Venice, and don't have to change seats.....
I stand corrected, thanks Nigel. Rome2rio.com must not consider Italo.
Trenitalia operates several departures that only require one connection at Rome (or occasionally only one but at Naples). Trenitalia also operates a competing, direct, afternoon train, departing Venezia S. Lucia at 15:25 and arriving Salerno at 21:24. Info per DB.
This is an example of why I prefer DB for most train schedule searches and only turn to Rome2Rio when I don't know what kind of transport I expect to find. How to Look Up Train Schedules and Routes Online gives you the DB train schedule link and tips for using it.
I'm excited, I am doing the Italo train in reverse, 7:20am from Salerno, getting to Venice after 1pm.....first time with Italo, and I don't have to change trains! I like trains better, instead of having to get to and from airports outside of the city center, the train stations are much closer and easier to use!
