Hello:has anyone done the venice ferry to rovinj day trip? Iam trying to determine if its a doable day trip and looking for any advice, if it is doable any suggestions on how to best spend the day there?
pandora,
Venice to Rovinj will not be a day trip, due to the travel times involved. Travel time is about 3H:45M and I believe there's only one sailing per day.
Oh, I thought I saw a fast ferry that is 2.5hrs. But you are right, thats still 5 hrs of a day lost...
Now my wheels are turning...so is Assisi from Rome a no go too then? It is about a 2.5 hr train ride as well.
I thought leaving early and spending from 11 to 6 to wander around and then head back...and banking on a scenic train side along the way....thoughts? ??
pandora,
A day trip to Assisi from Rome is certainly possible. If you don't mind getting an early start, there's a direct (no changes) departure at 07:58, arriving at 10:10. When you arrive at Assisi, you'll have to take the "C" line Bus up the hill to Piazza Matteotti (or a Taxi, if you don't mind spending a bit more). As I recall, you can buy Bus tickets at the Tabacchi at the station (also buy one for the trip back, and be sure to validate before use). Walk down Via del Torrione to get into the town.
For the trip back, there appears to be a direct departure at 18:17, arriving 20:35. There are several other runs back to Rome after that with one change, and the last departure of the night appears to be at 21:08.
thanks for the good info...I am glad I dont have to let Assisi go.
I assume rovigno is the Italian spelling and Rovinj the Croation version? I should know this originating from croatia, but I was very young then...so if it is 2 to 2.5hrs ferry, then why not go? Is it just too big a place to see in so short a time?
At a glance, I'd say that summer ferry schedules show the Prince of Venice going to Izola, Porec, and Umag at times that are convenient for a daytrip from Venice. Another boat, Adriatic Jet, runs the opposite schedule, more convenient for daytrippers visiting Venice from Porec, Pula, or Rovinj.
