Venice to Rome? Without train? Any suggestions?
Monique Ron in Rome has written a really good piece about Italian transportation strikes. You may get some reassurance there. You can find it at http://www.roninrome.com/%20transportation/strikes-in-italy
By Italian law, the trains do not completely shut down during a strike. They've worked this out with the unions over the years. You can see a link right on the main page of the www.trenitalia.com website that explains what goes on during the strikes. It's in the bottom of the mustard-colored section on their main page. On the strike explanation page, click on the link that says "See Italian version for details on guaranteed trains". Cick on Veneto and see the guaranteed runs out of Venice. To be sure, there are fewer runs but if you plan well, you can easily get one.
