Venice--to Rome to Athens Greece with 1 hour layover

After much internal debate, my wife and I have decided to fly from Venice to Athens and we are on Alitalia airlines and have a 1 hour layover in Rome. Should I be worried about doing customs in FCO (Rome) or will that all happen in Venice.

We have both been vaccinated (Pfizer) and will get COVID tested prior to the trip from the US to Rome. We will travel Rome to Florence to Venice. Do I have to Retest for COVID in Venice prior to my trip to Athens?

No idea what the testing protocols might be whenever your trip is, but customs/immigration is a non-issue as Italy and Greece are part of the Schengen zone.

All of the immigration/customs protocols will occur on your original arrival in Rome.

You’ll need to check the requirements for entrance to Greece
Embassy or their health ministry site

It sounds like your entire flight Venice to Greece is with Alitalia on 1 ticket?
If so you should be fine, baggage will be checked thru and it is the airline’s responsibility to get you to your final destination

Are there flights to Athens that depart later than your scheduled flight? I’d want to check that just in case
