Venice to Rome to Amalfi coast in 12 days

Hi

I posted earlier and thought I’d post again as thought of a new route. We are looking to travel end of sept (21) for 12 days to Italy. Would Venice to Rome to Amalfi be realistic? Two days in Venice then 3 days to Rome and a week in Amalfi flying home from Naples. Does this sound like a good trip for this time of year as we’d like some relaxation in the sun too.

Thanks

Hey Meredith,

Realistically, I think the route that offers the most logistical sense is Venice >>> Florence >>> Amalfi for that time frame. Skip Rome.

2 Days Venice

3 Days Florence

7 Days Amalfi Coast and that gives you your 12 Days.

Fly into Venice then fly out of Naples

From another of your posts you indicated you have 11 nights in Italy.

I would allocate 3 nights to Venice, as that is your arrival city, so likely will be contending with jet lag.

How you split the other 8 nights is personal preference. Many here would question giving equal or more time to the AC over Rome.

You do have time to hit all 3; what it is you want to do will dictate how you allocate your time.

Hi Meredith - so funny that you posted this - I had just finished my post about looking to share a water taxi out of the Airport in Venice on 8-21 and there was your post - what time are you coming in that day? Would you want to share a ride? Our flight arrives 9:05 am.

We are doing 3 weeks - Venice - Rovinj - Amalfi - Florence.

Ciao!

Tom

Venice needs 3 nights, especially since your first day is jet lag day. Use one of the days to visit Murano/Burano.
You don't say what your interests are but you can't go wrong with either Rome or Florence.
Where are you flying from?

2 nights really equals 1.5 days.
You have 11 nights and you want to be in the city that you fly home from at end of trip.

If you want Amalfi coast I would suggest:

Venice 3 nights
Train to Salerno- we are taking direct train in opposite direction so I assume you can do the same- it's a 6 hour train ride but gets you to Amalfi without changes in Naples/Rome, etc
From Salerno you can take a ferry- right near train station- to Amalfi.
Stay in Amalfi as it is transportation hub for all Amalfi sites
Amalfi- 4 or 5 nights- day trips to Capri, Positano, Ravello, Pompeii if you like (or maybe on your way to Rome)
Rome- 3 or 4 nights- not near enough time for Rome but gives you a taste.

I like to use rome2rio.com to scope out transpo options.

ETA-- just saw your previous post- gotta be honest- if this is your first trip to Italy I'd do
Venice-3
Florence-4 - day trip in Tuscany
Rome- 4

The beaches in Amalfi are mostly rocky from what I understand, I just don't think I'd spend my first trip to Italy sitting on a rocky beach.

So you have 11 nights. You need to be in Naples the night before you fly out. Truthfully spending an afternoon in Naples is not a bad thing. That now gives you 10 nights. I would skip Venice fly into Rome spend 4 nights so 3.5 days travel to the Amalfi coast 6 nights so 5.5 days. Spend your last night in Naples fly home from Naples.

If you have your heart set on all three then go to all three. Anything is possible. It all depends on your style of travel and what you want from the trip. Is it a bucket list of sights to see or is it a trip to relax and get a real feel for each area? Only you know the answer to that question. Good luck and enjoy

Seeing your other post that reveals you are UK based (why not include that in your profile?) , jet lag becomes a non issue.

Being you are a 2.5 hr flight from Italy its is relatively easy to make more frequent trips than those of us on the other side of the Atlantic.

You need to get a guide book and decide what it is you want to see, and try not to 'do it all' in one trip.

Hello all

Thanks so much for your help! I've never used these forums, and they are of great help.

I will use this info for our trip.

Thanks again

That's a very doable trip. I would consider adding an extra day in Rome and one less day in Amalfi. Rome is surprisingly relaxing and comfortable for such a large city, it easily warrants extra time.
