Venice to Rome or Vice Versa

I'm planning a trip for 5 adults in September. Should we fly into Venice and head south to Rome or do the opposite? We'll be flying out of Atlanta.
We have 10 days and we want to see Florence as well. What would be a good itinerary for us?
Thanks!

Fly into Venice, then train to Florence then train to Rome and fly home from there. 10 days is really not a whole lot of time to see 3 great cities.

I would definitely fly into Venice and fly out of Rome. Flying out of Venice would be a lot more stressful trying to get to the airport in time to catch your flight. Getting to the airport in Rome is easy. With only 10 days, I would not try to add anything more than Venice, Florence and Rome.

Vote #3 to start in Venice and end in Rome.

You can get tours books for each of the cities, or one book of Italy so you can see what interests most in each city.

With only 3 nights in each you will have plenty to choose from to keep you occupied

After you look at the tour books you may want to do 3 nights Venice, 2 in Florence and 4 in Rome , or possible some other combination. Just not less than 2 nights at any of these cities.

Mere,

I'd also suggest using Venice > Florence > Rome as that keeps travel time to a minimum and is an efficient route. That's about the same time frame as Ricks Venice/Florence/Rome tour. You might get some touring ideas by having a look at the Itinerary - https://www.ricksteves.com/tours/italy/venice-florence-rome

I'd suggest weighting the tour with more time in Florence, as that's a great location for day trips to other parts of Tuscany, such as Siena, Lucca or Pisa. There are also some good day trips possible from Rome such as Orvieto or even Pompeii (although the latter will be a LONG day).

Just chiming it for the difficulty of making a departing AM flight out of Marco Polo.

Start Venice, End Rome. Check the flight itineraries both ways, for giggles.
