Venice to Rome itinerary questions

Hello,
My husband & I are traveling to Italy in May for 14 nights(about 13 full days)~ flying into Venice & then out of Rome. We would really like to see Florence, Cinque Terre & possibly Siena, Orvieto & Assisi. Does anyone have suggestions for our itinerary & how long to stay in each place? These are the suggestions we have received so far: 2 days in Venice, 2-3 days in Florence, 3 days in the Cinque Terre, & 3 days in Rome. This leaves us about 4-5 additional days to visit the other towns, or would they be better as day trips from Florence?
Thank you so much!

If you are taking the train, plan your itinerary to go from Venice to Florence then to CT. The train from Venice to CT is long and you have one or two changes. It is not convenient to try to go to CT directly from Venice.
I'd stay at least 3 days in Venice. I know you can do day trips out of Florence or you could get to Siena and do day trips from there.
We had a car for a week and based out of Orvieto. We also dropped the car off at Orvieto and took the train back to Rome for our last two days. We were gone 3 weeks. If you went a car, you can pick it up in La Spezia after your stay in CT.

I would not add anymore places but divide up the remaining time between what you already have. I would add another day to Venice, one to Florence and one to Rome. There is MORE than enough to see in these cities to keep one occupied. You are already changing hotels 4 times which I think would be the max. Siena could be a day trip from Florence and Orvieto could be a stop on the way to Rome. I am not sure how I would fit Assisi in. I was in Assisi for 2 days and could have stayed more.
I caution you in not trying to do too much as you will miss just savoring Italy.

2 days in Venice is not enough for me, especially if that means arrival and departure time subtracted. 3 days in Rome, same thing. I think more time in each of those would be much better! Now, I am going to get raked over the coals for this one, BUT, in my opinion, CT is over rated. It has gotten touristy and very crowded. It is pretty to look at from the sea, and there are some pretty pictures to be taken, but there are also some pretty coastal towns in many countries. Venice on the other hand is globally unique. Rome has beautiful art, sculpture, historical landmarks and ruins that bring history alive. So much more to see that we need to keep returning. Florence is not that attractive to me. David was, yes, (quit laughing) but I think 2 days there is enough. Rome has beautiful art, sculpture & history. I think Florence has beautiful art & sculpture, but definitely not the same kind of history & historical ruins. Florence doesn't come alive like Rome does! Whatever you decide, my guess is that you will find an area or two that you think you don't have enough time in, and then start planning your next trip. Have Fun!
