We are ending a cruise in Venice. We need to leave the ship in the morning, but would like to see more of the city. We are planning on renting a car to continue our trip (drive to Rome). What can we do with our luggage while we're touring Venice?

I believe the train station has places you can check your luggage. How long will you be in Venice? It deserves at least 2 days IMO. Car rental will have to be on the mainland and I am not sure where.

The Venezia Santa Lucia train station (the only station in Venice proper) does indeed have a left luggage facility. You can rent cars at the nearby Piazzale Roma - you don't have to go to the mainland. (And you might want to edit the topic to be something more specific than just "Italy". After all, "Italy" would apply to everything in this section of the board.) Happy travels.
