Venice to Perugia Train Schedule

Trying to plan the train trip from Venice to Perugia and pick up a rental car on 8/23, but ItaliaRail says no schedule is available for this route. Anyone know what's going on with this route?

We're staying in Fontignano, so could train into Chiusi as well but Chiusi car rental locations show no availability to pick up a car on Sunday afternoons.

It may be that they do not upload schedules this far in advance.
I've just looked at 5/23 and 7/23 on Trainline and there is a full schedule, which will give you an idea.
I've also looked at 8/23 and it shows all the times, just not available for the train, only Flixbus, which would suggest that is the case.

Most car rental agencies are closed on Sundays (other than at airports or major train stations)

Why not check on the actual train website?
Italiarail is a third party reseller

Trenitalia

Too early for August schedules
I believe it will be fast train to Florence then transfer to Perugia
You could pick up car in Florence

Thanks Christine, I thought ItaliaRail was an official seller. Trenitalia does have the schedule posted so that's super helpful, just looks like they're not available for purchase yet. Any idea how far out they release them?

High speed trains tickets go on sale 180 days in advance. Since tickets for trains running before August 9 and after September 6 are on sale on the official site, there must be some engineering works planned somewhere on the line.

Trenitalia always waits for the definitive timetable of the works before rescheduling the service and start selling tickets.

A train to Perugia requires a high speed train to Florence and a Regionale Veloce to Perugia. About 5 hour journey.

The full walk in price in standard class is about 75€ pp one way. If you buy a few weeks in advance you might be able to save over 25€ per ticket.

Fontignano is also not far from Chiusi, however all rental agencies, Chiusi or Perugia, are closed on Sundays, except for the Perugia airport.

Personally, since you plan (need) to rent a car on that day, I would pick up the car in Venice and drive the 5 hours. It will be cheaper than a train if there are 2 or more people in the party.

Not all agencies are open at Piazzale Roma (Venice) on Sundays, so you might need to pick up the car at the Venice airport.

If you drive, you have the option to take the regular highway from Venice to Ravenna (Via Romea) then, after maybe a pit stop at the Ravenna Basilica in St. Apollinare in Classe, proceed to your final destination taking the E45 superstrada (divided 4 lane highway with no tolls) through Cesena and Perugia to your final destination. It is a shorter itinerary, although in terms of time is similar to the Bologna - Florence route on the A1. But the added bonus is that you save the 25€+ of tolls.
