Hello. We will be traveling from Venice to Rome in September and wanted to stop in Orvieto to see the sights then on to Rome. Does anyone know of a driver that we can hire or possibly join a tour from Venice to Orvieto to Rome in one day.

It’s at least a 5 hour trip just to Orvieto. So you won’t have a lot of time to visit in a day.
Trenitalia has many fast drivers. They can get you there faster than a Ferrari.

Hi, Giangilberto from Milan, I believe Orvieto is a city that deserves to be visited at a more leisurely pace, personally, I’ve been there three times and always stayed overnight. It isn't huge, granted, but the main attractions like the Duomo, Pozzo di San Patrizio, and the underground city deserve to be seen without rushing. You might also want to take a walk along the cliff edge or enjoy the sunset, there are plenty of spots to have an aperitif featuring typical Umbrian products. My advice is to dedicate more time to the visit.
It takes just over five hours from Venice via the Frecciarossa (the Italian high-speed train), as Roberto rightly mentioned.
However, there is one detail to note: the funicular that takes you from the station to the historic center located on the heights is currently out of service for maintenance. Replacement buses are available.
The shuttle bus service connecting Piazza Matteotti (Train Station) and Piazza Cahen (and vice versa) runs with the same frequency as the funicular.
Weekday schedule: first run at 7:10 AM, then departures every 10 minutes from 7:30 AM to 8:30 PM.
Weekend/holiday schedule: 8:00 AM to 8:30 PM, with departures every 15 minutes (subject to increased frequency for special events), you can check the details on the official Trenitalia website at this link:
There has been considerable controversy within the city council because, due to construction work and state authorizations that weren't initially anticipated, there is currently no confirmed reopening date.
So, personally, I wouldn't try to do it as a day trip, that is the advice I would give you.

Hello Melinda, and welcome to the forum,
I don't imagine there's a tour this specific into Orvieto from two cities that far away.
The fast train from Venice to Rome is about 4 hours and costs from 37e to 92e for standard class. Hiring a driver would take 5:30-6:30 hours driving with costs starting at 400e+. Adding Orvieto will add time and costs to this trip for an NCC driver. If you wanted to do this I would look into local guide or just tour the town yourself.
If you're interested in doing this you could take the fast train from Venice to Florence and then the slower regionale train to Orvieto which takes about 4.5-5 hours. Or there is a direct Intercity train at 09:34 that takes 4.5 hours and costs about 30e-45e. The train onward to Rome is about 2 hours and costs 10e.
This can be done but realistically you'll probably have lunch in Orvieto and have a couple of hours to see the town and have to push onto Rome. If you want to see Orvieto - which is a charming little town worth seeing - then you should plan for that. Personally spending 600-800e on a private driver to do so is too expensive for the couple hours there. Spending 55e on the Intercity train and hiring a local guide for a couple of hours seems like a reasonable plan, but remember to plan for stashing your luggage as well.
And doing Orvieto from Rome without luggage - 2 hours and 10e each way - is also an easy option and provides you with the most time there.
