Hello!
Qucikest way
1) from Venice to Sorrento (train)?
2) Sorrento to Rome?
thanks!
Helene
Both the 2 competing railway companies run High speed trains from Venezia S.Lucia and Venezia Mestre to Napoli Centrale.
You can check prices and schedules on the official sites: www.italotreno.it/en and www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en . They sell discounted tickets for advance purchases, but those are strictly "no changes, no refunds".
A direct high speed train does the journey from Venice to Naples in around 5 hours, more if you have to change in either Bologna or Florence.
Once in Naples you'll have to transfer to one of the 2 local trains that leave from the same underground tracks of Centrale station.
The Circumvesuviana is old, cheap, crowded, slow and it also stops at any given station along the route.
The Campania Express is a little more expensive, but has only reserved seats, a working A\C and calls only at Hercolaneum, Pompeii and Sorrento. There is no need to do it, but the Campania Express tickets can be purchased on-line in advance.
Thank you
in looking to buy tickets for the Campania Express, I could only find one site in Italian. is there a site I can purchase a ticket from Naples to Sorrento on a Campania Express?
thanks
Helene
Buy that cheap, local train ticket at the train station.
Thanks Laura
where would I find a schedule for times the Campania Express leaves from Naples to Sorrento?
Also - the Campania Express can be caught right at the Napoli centrale train station?
thanks
can be caught right at the Napoli centrale train station?
As I wrote, both the Campania Express and the Circumvesuviana leave from the underground tracks of Napoli Centrale. Just follow the signs saying Circumvesuviana till you stumble upon an escalator going down.
Timetables and Tickets: http://ots.eavsrl.it/web/public/ots/ticket/index?changeLang=en pick Porta Nolana/Piazza Garibaldi - Sorrento from the drop down "trip" menu.
