Venice to Munich By Train - TGV-Europe

Hi all-
I've been searching on the TGV-Europe site for Venice to Munich travel. I've entered a few "fake" times to plan for a future trip. The problem I'm having is they don't seem to allow for e-printing with this particular journey. They indicate free post delivery - problem being is that I'm in the US, which is not an option for delivery. Any suggestions on how to continue with this booking? Thanks

Alex, TGV Europe is probably not the best website for booking that particular route. You might try the Trenitalia website or bahn.de (the German rail website). Is there a reason you want to pre-book? It's just as easy to buy the ticket when you arrive in Venice, a few days before you'll be travelling. On that trip there are often two possible routes - Bus to Villach and then train to Munich OR train to Verona and then up through the Brenner Pass to Munich (that's the route I prefer). You might want to delete your duplicate Thread on this topic, so that you can keep all the replies in the same place. Happy travels!

Ken,
Thanks for the reply. No real reason to pre-book, this is our first time to Europe, so I'm just attempting to get my ducks in a row - and also searching for the best rate. We're spending a few nights in Rome, and then heading to Venice for one before heading up to Munich. We will be taking the Brenner Pass route. I asked about the TGV-Europe site as its shown significantly cheaper fares - 76 euro for 2 passes. I looked at the German site as well, but it wouldn't show me the fare for some reason - perhaps I didn't follow the process through enough. With the limited time we had in each place, I didn't want to risk not being able to get a seat on one of the trains to Munich - you don't foresee this being an issue? Thanks again!

Alex, As this is your first trip to Europe, it would be a good idea to read the Guidebook Europe Through The Back Door (if you haven't already). It provides a lot of good information on "how" to travel in Europe, including "Rail Skills". I don't believe the German rail website will show fares for trips which originate outside Germany. You may find it helpful to have a look at This Website or This Website. There's an enormous amount of information there. I don't believe you'll have any problem getting seats, especially if you buy a few days before you'll be travelling. There are several trains every day. You could buy tickets either at Venezia Santa Lucia or a Travel Agency in Venice (it's listed in the Italy Guidebook). Cheers!

Trenitalia.com indicates Munich trains going out of Venice @ 8:50 (V), 11:32 (Mestre), 13:34 (V), 15:20 (V) and 22:51(V). Most trains go over to Verona, where you transfer to another train. Total travel time is between 7 hrs. and 7 hrs. 39 minutes. Price is around E90 to E144 one way, not including any discounts. These are reserved seat trains. You'd miss some incredible mountain scenery if you took a night train.

I've gone Munich/Venice a handful of times in the last year and never had to change trains. We like having the compartment to ourselves, so we usually book ahead to reserve it. Always use bahn.de and can print from home.
