Venice to Montespertoli

After spending 3 days in Venice in early October, we are heading to Tuscany on a Saturday. We are trying to decide whether to take the train to Florence and rent a car there (on Via del Sansovino) or rent the car in Venice and drive to Tuscany. We know there will probably be a drop off fee when we return the car to Florence on our way to Rome. Google maps show the route as going through Florence. Is this a difficult drive? Or are we smarter just rent out of Florence.?
Just trying to find the most efficient method of travel.

It is an easy drive, all Autostrada, but you will have tolls and burn expensive gas. And the train is a lot faster, covering Venice to Florence in just 2 hours. viamichelin says 3 hours, 19.30 EUR of tolls and 22 EUR of fuel by car.

You could do it either way. The drive is not difficult. Personally I would pick the car up in Florence. Within country the drop fee should be very small or even zero. If just depends on where they need cars. Be sure to bring a good GPS with you.

Sam, I think you made my mind up with your logic. Rental in Firenze, no train. Thanks.

Check the opening and closing hours of the via Del Sansovino on Saturday.
In terms of cost it's cheaper if you pick up in Venice and there are two of you.
Gasoline and tolls from Venice will be under 50€. Train for two people plus taxi to via Del Sansovino is going to be more for sure. Time wise is going to be comparable once transfers to via Del Sansovino are taken into consideration.
