Hello,
I was wondering if on my ticket from Venice to Malpensa airport that requires a transfer to Malpensa Express at Milano Centrale I could take a longish (few hours) break at Centrale to spend some time in the city, and then catch a later express train to the airport. Would my ticket be still valid? Any insights into this will be highly appreciated.
Thanks!
Does your ticket for the express indicate a seat reservation or a starting time? I was unaware that you could book a single ticket from Venice to the airport.
I believe you have a seat reservation on a Freccia train to Milano Centrale, then a time limited ticket on the Malpensa Express train. The Malpensa Express is considered a 1st class Regionale ticket which has (I think) a 4 hour window to be used from your arrival at Milano Centrale. That is not much time if you have to store luggage at Milano Centrale, then retrieve it. That can take some time. If you are just going to hang around the station, have dinner, you should be OK.
If you haven't already bought this ticket, buy one from Venice to Milano Centrale only. You can then buy a separate ticket from Centrale to the airport once you're ready to leave Milan.
Thanks so much for your advise. Yes, I see that it makes sense to reserve only the Venice to Centrale leg now, since the Malpensa Express train ticket is not on discount even as part of a combined ticket for a longer trip.
