Venice to Marco Polo Airport

Hello! I need some advice for getting TO the airport. We're leaving on an early morning flight and can't afford to miss the plane. My research so far shows I have three options...water bus (Alilaguna), private water taxi or an actual bus. I've seen some of the pros and cons for all of the options, but my question is which may be the best for a flight leaving before 8AM? Private water taxi seems like the safest bet, but I would LOVE to not spend that much for just a few people. It seems like the next best option is the Alilaguana boat, but would those fill up quickly that time of the morning? Note: we would plan to take the earliest trip, so around 3:30 or 4AM. Are there benefits to leaving from St. Mark's versus the back side of Cannaregio (which appears to be less travel time and a later departure)?

Any advice or past experience is welcome.

Thanks!

We took a taxi to the airport from the train station area cheaper than we could have ridden the vaparetto. Of course, we were leaving mid-day to London Gatwick.
I was thinking that Marriott has a hotel out at the Marco Polo Airport, and the rates were reasonable last time I checked--cheaper than most rooms in Venice.

So many of the very early morning flights out of European airports are to gateway cities where travelers sit around until mid morning for their flight to North America. It's difficult enough traveling 9-10 hrs., much less not getting any sleep the previous night having to make early a.m. flights. I don't know if that's your case, but I never schedule such early morning flights to anywhere.

We were in the same situation as you are. We used the private water taxi. It is more expensive but we did not want to take a chance in being late, or missing a flight. There was less stress and worry taking the water taxi.
