Venice to Lake Como - train advice and hotel recommendations in Como

Planning to travel from Venice by train to Lake Como in July. First question - is there a direct train from Venice and to LC area and to which stations. Second question-where to stay? Looking to spend 2 nights and leave by train to Milan from there. We are looking for lake view, pool, and take in the scenery, relax before ending our vacation. Mid-range budget.

There is no direct train from Venice to Lake Como. You take a higher speed train from Venice to Milan and then a slower train to Lake Como. We stayed in an apartment rental in Bellagio. Would recommend the city but not the accommodations. (the apartment was La Limora) I think the hotels near the water were a splurge but we would do that next time. There's your view!

What is you’re budget per night in Euros? The pool might be the biggest challenge. You’ll probably need to prioritize: view, pool or price.

No direct train to Lake Como from Venice.I think in Bellagio Grand Hotel Serbelloni has a pool, maybe Hotel Belvedere too. Grand Hotel Tremezzo across the lake has a floating pool.

The train mechanics is simple.

From Venice (Venezia Santa Lucia) a high speed train will whisk you to Milan (Milano Centrale). There, depending on where on Lake Como you are going you can make a easy change to a TreNord train to Varenna for the mid-lake and Bellagio, or stay in the little town of Varenna. Or you can make an easy change to a Trenitalia train for the short journey to the city of Como (Como S Giovanni) for the bottom of the left fork.

You'll have to define by what you mean by mid-range budget to include a view and a pool. My definition of mid range may be lower than yours, and in that case it would be hard to meet the requirements.

Our budget is $250-300 per night or 225-270 Euro. Willing to sacrifice pool in order to have lake view.

Grand Hotel Tremezzo. That could fit your budget. Train to Varenna, ferry to hotel. I would suggest a water taxi though. Much more fun and it will take you there directly. And there pool is a delight - suspended out over the lake!

Another option is Villa Làrio. Train from Milan to Como, taxi to Villa Làrio. Beautiful section of the western leg of the lake.

Hi. We're going to be staying at Borgo Le Terezze this summer in Bellagio. Might be worth looking there.

Check out the Hotel Villa Cipressi in Varenna. It's super nice and we would stay there again in a heartbeat. Not sure if they have a pool, but great view of their gardens and Lake Como.
