Venice to Iceman?

We've got an extra day in Venice in August and would like to see the 5,000 year old man. Anyone done this? Or know of a tour? Thanks

The train will take you 3+ hours in each direction, with one connection. You can walk to the Iceman museum from the train. Bolzano is nice to visit and walk around, but it can be really hot in August (as can Venice so I guess you won't be movin gfrom fryingpan to fire).

The Ice Man exhibit is excellent but I'm not sure that it is really a day trip. I'd make it a 2 day adventure and stay in Castelrotto and hike in the area. A better use of time might be to go to Verona, Vincenza, Ravenna, or Padua--all within an hour or so of Venice by train. These are outlined in the RS Italy book as possible day trips. Loved Bolzano but 6 hours on a train (round trip) is a lot of time to give up in your vacation schedule.

I would suggest making reservations to visit this museum. We stood in line for at least an hour. They only allow so many people in at a time and groups/school children who have reservations have priority. We did enjoy our visit. Bolzano is beautiful.
