What is the main train station from Venice to Florence? I will be leaving Venice on Sunday August 28. Should I purchase tickets in advance.

High speed train tickets are like airline tickets. Buy a nonrefundable for a specific train now and save a lot, or buy last minute and pay the maximum price. Be sure to check both Trenitalia and Italotreno. Italotreno is often cheaper, and people tell me the trains are nicer.
