Venice to Cinque Terre via train - stop along the way in Padua ?

We plan to go from Venice to Vernazza Apr 7. First time in Italy so have some questions:
1 if we take the train to Padua [St Anthony is my wife's family patron] can we get off and catch a later train on the same ticket or do we need 2 tickets [venice to padua & padua to vernazza]
~
2 is there food on the trains and/or can we bring our own?
~
3 does anyone know if there are lockers in the Padua station to leave our bags.
~
thanks much

Padova is so close to Venice that you might consider doing it as a daytrip - it's about an hour at most and maybe €16 roundtrip. Then you wouldn't have to worry about luggage or food.

You won't be on the train long enough to dine (if that's even possible on all trains), but you can have lunch or dinner in Padova. Or bring something with you.

Tickets: if you are on a freccia or intercity train, you can't buy one ticket, get off and then get on another train. Big fines for that. Even on a regional train, your ticket expires about four to six hours after you initiate your journey. I advise getting the two tickets at the Venice station, if you want to do a stopover, but I think your easiest option is to daytrip.

Lockers: I don't think there are any, but there may be a luggage storage room if you decide to stop on your way to Vernazza.

You can take a Regionale Veloce train from Venice to Padua. They run every half hour in the morning, costs 3.60 euro and take 26 minutes to Padua. There is a luggage storage facility at the station (no more lockers in Italy). You can buy a transit pass in the station tourist office or out of the vending machines. Take the tram at the tram stop to the right out of the station exit. Head south to the Santo stop. St Anthony shrine is about 2 blocks away.
There are many connections in the afternoon to Vernazza. All of them require a Freccia segment at least as far as Bologna. Fare will depend on time of day and the route. Should take about 5 1/2 hours. The Freccia trains do have refreshment cars, but the last legs to Vernazza are on Regionale trains and I would not expect anything.
