Venice to Cinque Terre Tuscany Florence 5 days easy travel

We are disembarking cruise in Venice late Sept., aiming to see these 3 locations with final night in Florence for easy early morning access to flight home . Looking for efficient route from Venice and itinerary. Logic suggests fast train to Florence then day trip to CT then Tuscany then Florence. Also willing to sacrifice quantity for quality, minimize rushing. Ideas please and thanks.

I would not recommend CT as a day trip from Florence. It's about 3 hours each way by train, and there's too much to see and do in CT to squeeze it in to a day like that.

You can easily visit Tuscan hill towns as a day trip from Florence, especially if you rent a car. Perhaps consider starting with 2 nights in CT (about 5 hours by train from Venice), so you have a full day there. Then train back to Florence for the remaining nights.

Your logic may be debatable.
From Venice to the Cinque Terre via train ( via Florence) is a 5hr+ trip, So unless you spend a night there not sure it's worth to do a day trip. Also Tuscany is a very broad term. The region of Tuscany (the capital of which is Florence) is as large as Massachusetts and Rhode Island combined. So you need to define exactly where you want to visit. Most towns are best visited by rental car. If your rental period starts after the Cinque Terre it is best to rent in La Spezia and return the car in Florence after you are done with your Tuscan countryside visit.

melody,

As you've only got five days and have stated that you're "willing to sacrifice quantity for quality", you'll probably have to make some compromises. I'd suggest using Florence for a "home base", as that should provide an opportunity to either take day trips to other parts of Tuscany, or go with some kind of guided day tour. One benefit of the guided tours is that they'll be doing the driving, so you'll be able to sample the Vino!

While taking a day trip from Florence to the Cinque Terre will be a longer day, it's absolutely possible (I know, as I've done it). If you leave early and return to Florence in the evening, you will have time to at least see the five towns. I can provide a few thoughts on which order to take with the visit if you're interested. One other benefit of visiting the C.T. as a day trip is that you can pick the day. If the weather looks like it might be a problem on a particular day, you'll have four other days to make the trip.

You have 5 cities / regions listed and 5 days of travel. Impossible. I would base in Florence as a previous poster suggested and take 1-2 nights for Tuscan countryside touring and then fly out of Florence to go home. I would recommend an absolute minimum of 2 nights in Florence.

I would leave the Cinque Terre for another trip. I'm no expert Italy traveler, but I can't understand why anyone would take a day trip to the CT from Florence. You spend about 3 hours each way getting there, rush around seeing all the towns, then spend another exhausted 3 hours getting back. I just don't see the payoff. I really think you're better off staying put in the Tuscany region.

I agree that doing CT, Florence and other towns in Tuscany in 5 days does not make for easy travel at all! You may want to take a look at the website Rome2Rio as it gives you the travel times between different cities using different modes of transportation. You can rent a car in Venice and drive to CT in about 4 or 4 and a half hours, spend then night there and have a look around, then drive to Florence (not INTO Florence - dump the car on the way in). You could take a day trip out of Florence, possibly, before your flight home. But this sounds like a whole lot of getting from one place to the next and not much seeing where you are. I agree that your best bet may be to take a train from Venice to Florence (about a 2 hour train ride with trains offered frequently) and make that your home base for seeing Tuscany.
