Has anyone taken the train from Venice to Castelrotto, if so how many hours? I understand there is a train change in Bolzano. Also do the trains run all night? We will be docked in Venice from 2:00 till 5:00 the next day.
I believe that you'll need to train to Balzano and then take a bus to Castelrotto. Train is about 3 - 4 hours depending on which train and then the bus should be abouut 30-40 minutes.
coming back it looks like the last train is about 1 am and then starts again around 5 am. Don't know about the bus.
www.trenitalia.it for the train
this appears to be the bus.
We drove through the area. It's probably fastest to go through Verona then to Balzano and bus from there. There is probably an option of a local train through the Dolomites but I'm not certain of it. The Dolomites route would probably take longer.
Training to the mainland and renting a car is also an option.
It's not a convenient trip. Driving one way from Verona to Venice (getting parked and vapporetto to our hotel) was enough of a trip for one day for us. I wouldn't do it unless it was absolutely necessary (family who would be insulted if I didn't come by). I would prefer to stay in Venice.
Thanks Brad...we forsure won't be doing that trip, thanks, Jo
