Has anyone travelled from Venice to Assisi? If so, was it easy to navigate the train system?

Getting tickets, boarding train, finding your train?
There is no direct route Venice to Assisi
I think fast train to Florence then change to regional to Assisi then a bus up to town
Going to be a rather long trip
