Yes, you can get to Assisi by train from Venice but be prepared for about 5.0hrs of journey time and a train change at Florence. First, take the high-speed from Venice to Florence. Then, you change to a Regionale train from Florence to Assisi (about 2.5hrs). My wife and I have done the Florence/Assisi round trip. Are you staying in Assisi? Note that you cannot see the classical Assisi from the train station. There are bus runs from the train station to the hilltown. Its really something when it comes into view. Note also that the streets are a bit steep. So message back and let us know where you are staying. Assisi is our very favorite Italian hilltown. Nice shops, nice places to eat and great gelato. One more note. The nicer restaurants are closed from 4-7pm. But, you can find places to eat if you need to.
