My 17-year-old daughter and I will be leaving Venice on a 10 a.m. flight back home. Since we need to be at the airport 2 hours before flight, I'm wondering what type of tranport to take? Travel agent said a private transport arranged ahead of time (before we leave U.S.) would cost $205 for the two of us. Should we just wait and make arrangements w/hotel?
Don't book from the US. Let your Venice hotel help. A taxi from "central" Venice to the airport costs a standard e100 (currently about $135). I hired two taxis last week for my group of 11 (some members had a lot of luggage) and paid e100 for each plus tip. It's also what I paid last year. You could also use the Alilaguna service that others have been talking about on this board. See below for complete details.
I posted a similar topic last week. Will bring it to page one for you to see.
Thanks - appreciate it. I'm pretty new at all this, and haven't had a lot of time in the last few weeks to do research on all the finer points of traveling.
There are several ways to go. You can get a water taxi which I am told drops you quite a way from the terminal or the Alilaguna ferry which leaves from St Marco Square - (From another website) : Alilaguna has been offering a premium "Oro" (Gold) direct service between the airport and San Marco for €25 per person.
You can get the bus from Roma Plaza which is only a couple of Euro. Lastly you can get a cab from Roma Plaza which takes about 20 - 30 minutes. The cost of this I am not sure of as a local asked to share my cab as he was running really late for a flight and he insisted on paying. I think it was around the 40 - 50 Euro price. For me the cab was the best option as it was quick and dropped me right off at the departure entrance.
I wouldn't book from the US it will be so much easier and cheaper to get your hotel to arrange for you.
