Venice since the nov 2012 flooding

I have to decide by tomorrow 1/17/13 to ask for a cruise refund or make the final payment. we plan to do back-to-back cruises involving 2 nights and 3 days in Venice, but how are conditions in venice since the nov 2012 flooding? are most of the churches and museums open?

The flooding is tidal and last for a few hours - the water goes up and then it goes down. Museums are very seldom affected; some churches may be closed for a few hours. There has been no significant flooding since November 11th. By mid-afternoon that day, life started being normal again. We have been here in Venice since October 21st. Life goes on.

Here's a webcam of Piazza San Marco (St. Mark's Square) that refreshes every five seconds.

Sue, these 'acqua alta' events happen a few times a year, typically around November. Within a few hours, or days at the latest, everything's back to normal. This year's flooding was a little more 'enthusiastic' than usual, coming in at just under 5', but typically Venice doesn't flood like the Johnstown flood or some other type of catastrophe. It's more like a foot or so high...and they hand out nice little plastic booties and bring out wooden platforms to help people stay dry(er) while getting around. Here's an article from Fodor about Venice's Acqua Alta, and a series of photos from the unusually-high Nov 2012 waters: http://www.fodors.com/news/venices-acqua-alta-6194.html http://www.theatlantic.com/infocus/2012/11/venice-under-water/100403/ I would advise that you absolutely NOT cancel your cruise! Enjoy Venice!
