My last stop on a lengthy trip to Italy next fall will be three nights in Venice. I will be traveling alone at this point and am looking for suggestions from other solo travelers for hotels that have nicer single rooms. I have a case of claustrophobia that makes me extremely uncomfortable in windowless rooms, rooms that look into walls and rooms that look closely into other rooms (such that I have to keep the curtains closed during the day). I would be happy with a very small room, and I don't need a canal or other nice view. My budget limit is $200 a night. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
You can try Hotel Bel Sito and Berlino. Their prices have gone up from when I first used them, but depending on when you're going you may be able to get a "single" under that limit. I stayed in a "single" about 7 years ago. It was small, but had a window, it's on a small piazza across from a cute little Church and very close to Saint Mark's Square. They've got a very nice breakfast, and it has an elevator.
Hotel Ala is now showing better prices and many people on this website really like this hotel. I'm amazed at how the prices have gone up since my last stop in Venice! They're both under #EU 200, not quite under $200, but take a look.
Hotel Bel Sito shows a window (mine definitely had one) but not sure about Hotel Ala. I just did a quick search on booking.com
Many times if you get the hotel phone number/fax etc and you book direct you can get it for less money, especially
this far in advance. Just make SURE you get that confirmation.
If you can stand the gaudiness, the Hotel Savoia and Jolanda Venezia has some of the most stunning views I've ever enjoyed. It would be a wonderful last stop for your trip. We stumbled into this hotel late at night once when we missed our train and had nowhere to stay and it was magical! In the fall the rates will be close to your budget.
Hi Mary Sue, try the Hotel Rialto. It's in a great location, right next to the bridge. Many of the rooms have a nice view of the canal. I think they have single rooms in your price range.
A couple of times I have stayed at the Laconda del Melagrano. The smallish single room I had overlooked the hotel's garden - quite a rarity in Venice. It was well located near the San Marcuola vaparetto stop and a short walk from the Strada Nova the main street leading to Rialto. The cost was just under 100 Euros a night, including a reasonable breakfast, about four years ago.
Lesley, you've come up with the least expensive alternative!
Thanks for the input, everyone!
