Venice, Rome, Florence : advice and rating for our lodgung

Hi !

My wife and I will be in Rome, Florence and venice from July 8 to july 20 (12 nights). We have made reseravtion on airbnb. What we want to know is if we made good choices.

Is those places practical and safe ?

Can anyone recommande us good restaurants, bar (we love beer !) or cafes around them ?

Rome (5 nights) : Trastevere https://fr.airbnb.ca/rooms/2265519

Florence (4 nights) : Dont know the name of that quarter ! https://fr.airbnb.ca/rooms/7070194

venice : Cannaregio https://fr.airbnb.ca/rooms/12013950

Thanks in advance !

That area of Trastevere is very noisy at night. Some of the reviews indicate the windows almost kept the noise out, so it depends on how you deal with noise. I would ask what floor it is on as I see no indication of a lift. It does seem to have A/C, but I would ask for certain what rooms are air-conditioned. It is never central A/C and often only one room has a unit.

There are lots of shops, bars, and restaurants in Trastevere. That's one reason is it so noisy!

I could not get the Venice link to open or I would comment.

We have stayed in Cannaregio, actually looks like our neighborhood. We liked it so much, we are going back to the same place this year! Very safe.

Never felt unsafe in any of those cities -- in fact I feel safer there than in many U.S. cities. Just be aware of your surroundings as you would in any large city and you'll be fine.

All look great; good choices!
In Venice, you are right near or above the old theatre which has been turned into a supermarket, a good one.
Still looks like a theatre inside as they have preserved all the frescoes, etc.
The security guard sits in the old box office!
There are a couple of decent restaurants along the left hand side of the Canareggio Canal, just near there; and a good bar with canalside seating for an aperitif after walking all day.
It's called Al Parlamento.
Actually, the tiny bar right at the corner of the Guglie Bridge looks dodgy, but makes some good drinks!
In Venice, don't forget to try cichetti: bite sized snacks that are really delicious.
Bars all over have them, usually fish, or cheese, or meat, on small pieces of bread.
Lots of variation, but 3 or 4 of those make a good light meal.
A bit like tapas.
Have a great time!

Florence:

  1. Perseus
  2. Il Latini
  3. Osteria del Cinghiale Bianco
  4. Trattoria 4 Leoni
  5. Trattoria Napoleone
  6. Santo bevitore
  7. Osteria de Benci

For Sandwiches -- go to L'Antico Vinaio (there are thousands of ratings on Tripadvisor, along with the address-- near Uffizi)

Venice:

  1. Garanghelo
  2. Ai Assassini
  3. Osteria Mocenigo da Guido e Luca

You can look these up on TripAdvisor for ratings. I have eaten at all the ones in Venice (stay away from places on the square).

My daughter (lives in Italy) has a list of restaurants in Rome (right in the area you are staying). Let me know if you are interested. My son-in-law has referred several friends to Al Pompiere (it's well known) and they have liked it very much.

Thanks for all those recommandations ! I begin to have a great list...in fact more restaurants that I will have time to eat !

Terri, of course i'm very interested by that Rome listing !

Our Florence appartement is on via Faenza 12. I just read that that area can be a bit unsafe at night.

How is via Faenza unsafe at night? It's in the middle of the center with lots people walking at all hours. I can't think of a place in that area that would be unsafe. Actually Florence is generally safe anywhere.

The only danger I see for you, since you love beer, is that there are a couple of beer pubs within 100 ft from your apartment, one is an Irish pub called Dublin or something like that. That can be a danger. Other than that I see no dangers. It used to have a couple of Chinese stores and restaurants but I don't know if any are left. That area was sort of the Chinatown in the old days (maybe 2 Chinese stores and two restaurants than in those days in Florence it would make it a Chinatown)

We stayed on Via Faenza and it was perfectly safe! We chose it for convenience to the station on a short trip (on other visits we have stayed near the Duomo and near Santa Croce) and were very pleased with the area, the hotel, and a particularly good restaurant.
